Mum is here! - Day 3

we woke up pretty late today.. breakfast was Garlic Bread, Potato & Pasta Bake and crumbed Nuggets.. the latter 2 are remnants from Junk Food Night.. wahaha..

by the time we got ourselves to Hahndorf, it was past 2pm! we got off at the Beerenberg Farm and Mum was very busy with buying all the jams and sauces! how usual~ haha! after Beerenberg Farm, we walked down to the town area.. and took some photos along the way..

once we got to the main street of the town, having lunch was our main priority.. we settled for The Hahndorf Inn and sat at the alfresco area because the weather was pretty good.. we were deciding between the German Mixed Grill [A selection of German Wursts, smoked Pork Kassler Chop and herb dumpling, served on sauerkraut with Rhine Potato and a selection of German mustards] and the Giant Juicy Pickled Pork Hock (knuckle) [Served on a bed of sauerkraut with Rhine Potato and a selection of German mustards]..

we finally decided on the Pork Knuckle but it turned out that Mum was not prepared for it! in her mind, it would be something like the Deep Fried Pork Knuckle that we get in Yong Peng but she was so so wrong! i only told her that it would be quite different moments before the dish was served.. she didnt have time to digest this new information and the dish was promptly served on our table.. and Mum was HORRIFIED! she thought it was raw, just RAW.. like that particular part of the pig was chopped off, placed on the plate and served!

the look on Mum's face was classic.. her face was all cringed up and she looked like she was going to cry.. she looked like she was on Fear Factor and her challenge was to eat a plate of wriggling maggots! she didnt dare look at the Pork Knuckle throughout the whole meal and i was given the job of cutting up the Pork Knuckle and serving her small pieces of meat.. while she dug into huge servings of German mustards, Sauerkraut and Rhine Potato.. i think her favourite was one of the German mustards~!

the bar counter and part of the interior of the restaurant..

after the 'freak' incident at The Hahndorf Inn.. we continued down the main street.. we went to the The German Cake Shop and bought Bienenstich to take away.. but it didnt last too long and was gone before we knew it! haha..

also, after taking this photo.. i realised that POP doesnt mean Population, i think it meant Point of Presence.. since that was the year that Hahndorf was founded.. 1839 for population is a bit too low, i think.. but even if that was the case, i'm not surprised.. most people would have gone to the city to look for work and maybe build a life elsewhere..

when we got back to the city from Hahndorf, we went to Woolworths to get some groceries for breakfast tomorrow.. we are going to the Royal Adelaide Show tomorrow!!!

Mum came home and cooked Nission Tonkutsu with an egg for dinner! wahaha.. the Pork Knuckle has gotten to her really badly.. hehez..

*flights and accommodation for Melbourne have been booked! we'll be there from the 13th (Sat) to the 16th (Tues)!
